Lupe Gajardo Autumn/Winter 2015 at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week

Chilean designer, Lupe Gajardo, made her debut at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week with her Autumn/Winter 2015 collection, centered around "Birds and the homeless. The streets. Dressing out of necessity. Layers upon layers. The beauty of authenticity. The freedom that is granted by chaos. The wandering. The unpretentious."

The collection features recycled denim, organic cotton and separates made with coffee sacks, natural feathers and pins. This collection felt like a cross between a Project Runway unconventional materials challenge and what some of the Abnegation characters of Divergent would be wearing. Although very interesting, the runway looks didn't read Autumn/Winter to me with crop tops and leather sandals, at least not for New York City. The looks were accessorized with leather clutches. I would have loved to see some clutches made of coffee sacks or natural feathers, too.
