About the Brand: Kevyn Aucoin
"Kevyn Aucoin is celebrated as perhaps the most influential makeup artist of our time. There's no doubt Kevyn's technical abilities were unparalleled. But his philosophy and fondness for celebrating individuality are what set him and his artistry apart in an industry so prone to norms and traditions. At a time when the world of makeup artistry was impersonal, distant and out of reach, Kevyn was the first to welcome beauty enthusiasts backstage. Kevyn Aucoin made it his mission to share his techniques with anyone willing to learn them; he made his methods accessible to millions in his bestselling books – The Art of Makeup, Making Faces and Face Forward. In them, he divulged the secrets of his art, teaching makeup application step-by-step in his own words. These makeup 'bibles' are timeless must-haves for artists and beauty consumers today."

J. Mendel Fall 2019 at New York Fashion Week

J. Mendel Fall 2019 is inspired by the texture of raw marble, the rich tones of geode crystals, and the layering techniques of painter Sean Scully, presenting a collection of looks for both day and night. This season's looks are also more youthful, with the addition of standout shearling pieces, in timeless camel, dusty rose and vibrant lavender, styled effortlessly with everything from layered tulle gowns to metallic tweed minis. One of the looks includes a short coat made of teddy bear shearling over an intricately beaded and embroidered mini dress.

A modern take on texture and layering continues with an open-weave top and organza gown made of layered ruffles. Daytime tweeds are made even more textural by way of chevron embroideries and gold-threaded inlays, all inspired by the shapes and changing colors of the interior of stunning geodes.

The evening gowns in J. Mendel collection include hand-pleated skirts, sheer layered ruffles, and elegantly low necklines. When it comes to the light and airy, yet rich and opulent feeling of J. Mendel's finale gowns, the designer looked to photographs from Tim Walker that hold that whimsical deconstruction of what once was only seen in the great halls of centuries past Parisian galas. They are gowns that carry with them stories of generations past, simultaneously infused with a new energy of the younger generation.

J. Mendel Fall 2019 was stunning to see, although I wish the collection, or at last some of the looks were presented on models, to see how the dresses flow and move. It's just not the same seeing it on mannequins - you also don't see the different angles of the dress or how the beading sparkles and shines. I hope next season J. Mendel goes back to an on-model presentation!

This dress is one of my favorite pieces, as the beading stands up
instead of laying flat against the dress!

Hakan Akkaya Fall/Winter 2019 at New York Fashion Week

Hakan Akkaya Fall/Winter 2019 at New York Fashion Week was inspired by glam rock, a style of rock music that developed in the UK in the early 1970s, performed by musicians with outrageous costumes, make up and hairstyles, particularly platform shoes and glitter.

A more extreme version of glam, "glitter rock" was made famous by acts such as David Bowie, Elton John, T. Rex, Alice Cooper, Slade, Gary Glitter, Queen, Sweet and Joan Jett. These performers were known for extravagant clothing, were often androgynous, and played with nontraditional gender roles.

For  the Fall/Winter 2019, Hakan Akkaya created a collection of fearless iconic proportions and glamorous rock stars. Hakan was also inspired by Turkish stars such as Hayko Cepkin, Baris Manco, Zeki Muren and many Turkish icons. In Hakan's opinion, self confidence is the best outfit,
rock it and own it.

The 70s and 80s rock looks mostly in black and silver, featured studded details, shoulder pads, sparkle and sequins, leopard prints, large lightning bolts, leather, fur and jumpsuits. Among the looks included an oversized puffer coat, which has been dominating the runways at New York
Fashion Week.
