Desigual Spring/Summer 2016 at New York Fashion Week

Desigual Spring/Summer 2016 focuses on the streets of Barcelona and free-spirited, bold, independent and joyful women who inhabit the city with confidence and authenticity. The collection was shown in waves, with three women in mind. Opening the show was the carefree eccentric with a casual, sporty look: eye-popping prints, leisurely tailoring and sophisticated sneakers. The second wave featured the eclectic sensualist, with oversized shirt over a mini-dress or a draped sweater around the neck as a scarf, layered with vivid florals and abstract pattern brushstrokes. Lastly is the sophisticated intellectual, with elongated, structured silhouettes and detailed textures.

Desigual Fall 2015 at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week

Desigual Fall 2015 reflects on many cultures coming together - from folk crafts and lush landscapes to works of art from North, South, East and West. Desigual's canvas this season pulls from an abstract painting, a swatch of upholstery, a photograph in a book about Africa, a historic trip through Renaissance Northern Europe and a flush landscape full of flowers.

Fall 2015 features black and white geometric prints, multi-hued embroideries, Oriental carpet motifs and vivid abstract Baroque tapestries. The collection anchors around medieval gemstones, contemporary paintings and exotic flower bouquets, all rendered on printed tulles, jacquards, embossed hair, and duchess satin.

Among my favorites are a chunk-knit, ethnic print sweater, Nordic-print sweater coat, black-and-white pullover sweater paired with a black-and-white geometric tube skirt, faux fur bomber jacket, and sheer folk embroidery motif blouse. I also loved how the looks were accessorized, with pompom hats and bright, yellow suede ankle boots. I always anticipate how Desigual mixes contrast prints together. You can always count on Desigual to be fun, playful and vibrant.

Desigual Spring / Summer 2015 at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week

Desigual Spring / Summer 2015, designed by Christian Lacroix, is inspired by nature's flora and fauna, presenting a colorful, multi-cultural bouquet. The collection focuses on warm weather with daisies in bloom, desert roses, tropical hibiscus and Mexican dahlias; flowers freshly cut from an imaginary garden.

The collection is a blossoming kaleidoscope, inspiring happiness, one bloom at a time, with jade, white and onyx tones filled with poppy red, saffron, and teal. Amongst the colorful prints were neutral tones, including a black and white kaleidoscopic mini, A-line tank dress, embroidered tulle tops (I love this paired with the crinkle chiffon kimono jacket) and a black lace top with contrasting scallop crochet detailing.

Desigual for me is always the most playful, fun and colorful of shows, with Adriana Lima hitting the runway with the opening and closing looks.
