Investigation Discovery and Glamour Honor Women Inspiring a Difference

On September 9th at the Edison Ballroom in NYC, Investigation Discovery and Glamour honored Brittany Snow, Kristin Chenoweth and Emily Deschanel for their dedication to important causes and inspiring a difference in the lives of others. The inaugural Inspire a Difference event is part of Investigation Discovery's new public affairs campaign, encouraging a national dialogue about victims' rights and healing. Wendy Naugle, Executive Editor of Glamour kicked off the evening followed by the honoree ceremony hosted by Henry Schleiff, President of Investigation Discovery.

Each of the honorees discussed their work with their charities:
Love is Louder: Actress Brittany Snow founded Love is Louder to support anyone feeling mistreated, misunderstood or alone. Individuals, communities, schools and organizations have embraced Love is Louder as a way to address issues like bullying, negative self-image, discrimination, loneliness and depression.

Maddie's Corner: Inspired by her love for her dog Maddie, singer, actress and comedienne Kristin Chenoweth founded Maddie's Corner, an organization that supports not only animals in need, but also emotionally abused and at-risk children through the sponsorship and creation of pet therapy programs. Maddie's Corner has also established a humane education and anti-bullying campaign aimed at fostering tolerance and compassion in youth, with the hopes of preventing violent and abusive behaviors.

Five Acres: Actress Emily Deschanel is a supporter of Five Acres, which works to prevent child abuse and treat abused children and their families via residential and outreach programs. Five Acres also trains and supports foster and adoptive families to provide children needing homes a safe place to heal and thrive.

Glamour and Paul Mitchell Event Hosted by Fashionably Petite

As a Glamour Glambassador, I hosted an event sponsored by Glamour and Paul Mitchell at Salon CARU at 104 Hudson Street in Hoboken on Wednesday, October 17th. Bloggers and friends enjoyed complimentary blow-outs and hors d'oeuvres. The event featured the two newest Paul Mitchell collections - Curls and Blonde.

The entire staff at CARU was incredibly friendly and really made us feel welcomed. I've often felt rushed at many of the salons I've been to but the CARU stylists really took their time with us. Thank you to Denis for an amazing mini scalp massage treatment. I was surprised when he told me he used Paul Mitchell Forever Blonde Shampoo and Conditioner on my hair. Apparently it's not just for blondes and keeps hair hydrated and healthy! Thank you to my stylist Amanda who gave me some natural waves while building up texture in my hair with Paul Mitchell products. Even though I don't have naturally curly hair, I can still use Paul Mitchell Curls Twirl Around or Ultimate Wave products as styling aids. Twirl around is a two-part styler smoothing gel and hydrating cream helping to create curls without leaving a hard, crunchy feel. Ultimate Wave cream-gel adds texture for a beachy hair look.

CARU really caters to its clients, offering validated parking for two hours and is open until 10pm on Tues-Friday.  Nice to know I'm not limited to lunchtime or the weekend to book a hair appointment and coming from the city, it's just a five-minute walk from the Hoboken PATH train. I also love the uniqueness of CARU, from the blow dryers extending from the ceiling to the inspiring blow-out menu listed on the wall.

Many thanks to the owner of CARU, Colin Caruso and his styling team for having us, and a big thank you to Glamour and Paul Mitchell for having me host the event. Thank you to all my guests who attended!

Everyone loved their gift bags. How cute are these totes! CARU also sent us home with mystery gift cards to use toward our next visit and a punch card to receive a free blow-out after trying each style on the blow-out menu

Always Hit on the Wingman...and 9 Other Secret Rules for Getting the Love Life You Want

One of the perks of being a Glambassador is surprisingly getting a new product in the mail to review and promote. These unexpected gifts always brighten up my day! Well last week I received Glamour's new dating advice book, Always Hit on the Wingman...and 9 Other Secret Rules for Getting the Love Life You Want, written by Jake, Glamour's male dating columnist.

I have to admit, I'm a sporadic reader since I never seem to have enough time. Seems like the best time for me to get a good read in is on the beach, at the pool or when I'm just home, sick with a cold like I am now.

I've only read two chapters so far, but it's a great book to read from a male perspective, especially if you are a single woman constantly confused by men. The book includes great tips, collective wisdom and ten rules to help you get the love life you deserve. Here's a sneak peek at what you'll learn:

- You've got to broadcast your personality. If you're a nerd, let your nerd flag fly.
- The best men don't send expensive flowers.
- For great sex, save a few tricks for (much) later on.
- Keep dating other people longer than you think you should.

The book just launched this week so add it to your book list! Get your copy here!

Glamour and Lancôme Fall 2009 Collection Makeover Event at Bloomingdale's

I was eager to get my makeover with Lancôme’s new fall collection "Declaring Indigo", especially since I had two more events to go to that night. I was amazed to see the overbooked turnout, with 50 Lancôme make-up artists busy at work, at the Glamour/Bloomingdale’s event at the 59th Street store on July 29th. If you love Lancôme, I highly recommend booking an appointment with make-up artist Angel Mendoza (looks a lot like Lou Diamond Phillips), who gave me the look I was looking for.

I prefer a dramatic eye and nude gloss for my nights on the town and the Indigo Charm eyeshadow quad and Declaring Gold gloss that I ended up purchasing definitely helped me achieve that effect. I feel like you can never have too many eyeshadows – and I definitely didn’t have any rich blues like the Declaration and Liberty shades included in the quad. Charming is great to use for highlighting the inner corner of the eyes. The gloss looks great when worn alone or over any lipstick or gloss color, adding natural, extra shine. It’s not sticky, is smooth and evenly distributed on the lips and I like the angled applicator.

Attendees were photographed for an in-store shoot right after their makeovers and were able to take home the glamorous shot. I missed my shoot opportunity since I was one of the last makeovers, but I did look fabulous for my next events.

There was also a gift with purchase, including a nautical blue and white striped hobo bag that came with High Resolution Refill-3X anti wrinkle cream, mascara, neutral eyeshadow quad, nude lipstick and the Bi-Facil double-action eye makeup remover (love that - it works so well!).

I’m all set for fall with my intense new
Lancôme look!

Swarovski CRYSTALLIZED™ Event

Charm bracelet give to all attendees

My customized Swarovski CRYSTALLIZED™ charm bracelet

I was excited to see what was in store for me at the Swarovski CRYSTALLIZED™ and Glamour event. Right after I checked in, I was offered a silver-plated charm bracelet (retail $30),a gift from Swarovski CRYSTALLIZED™ for all attendees. The last thing I needed was another bracelet, but I definitely wanted to participate in customizing my own. So I headed over to the components wall to pick out my charms. Since I had just purchased a starfish pendant the other week, I decided to stick with the same theme and picked out starfish, brass fish and baroque charms. The price of each charm varies, anywhere from $6-$30.

Attendees received 15% off each item they purchased that evening. I had to run off to another event so I didn’t actually put my bracelet together there, but it is very easy to do. You just clasp the charms onto the bracelet links. It was a fun event, especially amongst friends, champagne and bruschetta. Next time I will have to customize a necklace!
