Backstage at Nicholas K Spring/Summer 2017 at NYFW

I kicked off the Spring/Summer 2017 New York Fashion Week seasons backstage at Nicholas K at Skylight at Moynihan Station. Giannandrea for Macadamia Professional, Sarah Lucero for Stila Cosmetics, and Miss Pop for NCLA took me through hair, makeup and nail looks for the show. 

Giannandrea created the horsetail for the show, applying extensions and creating a high ponytail. For Stila Cosmetics, Sarah created the Silver Mirage look with a silver metallic cat eye using Magnificent Metals Foil Finish Eye Shadow in Titanium and a neutral lip with Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick in Biscotti. Stay All Day Foundation, Smudge Stick Waterproof Eye Liner in Damsel, HUGE Extreme Lash Mascara, Stay All Day Bronzer, and Stay All Day Waterproof Brow Color. Miss Pop put together a nail look of geological formations. I also discovered Chuda Healing Hydrating Cream by Dr. Elena Ocher, being used to prep the models. This multi-purpose cream can be used as a primer or moisturizer, and deeply hydrates and rapidly heals dry and damaged skin.

Here are steps to create the horsetail:

1. Start with wet hair and apply Macadamia Professional Blow Dry Lotion throughout the lengths to smooth and protect hair from heat styling. Blow-dry large sections straight with a large round brush. 

2. Brush all the hair upward to the top center of the crown. All the sides and back of the hair must direct very tightly to the top center.

3. Pull hair into a ponytail, smoothing all sides as needed and secure with a stronh hair elastic. 

4. Take a medium sized section from the back bottom of the ponytail. Wrap the section around the base of the elastic and spray Macadamia Professional Flex Hold Shaping Hairspray  to help the hair stay in place. Create a tall, 3-inch thick band that covers the elastic. Use straight pins all around while wrapping and smoothing it in place.

5. Lightly spray the top of the head with Macadamia Professional Flex Hold Shaping Hairspray and gently run hands over the hair to smooth flyaways.

6. Brush the ponytail and spray Macadamia Professional Weightless Moisture Dry Oil Micro Mist to achieve the ultimate finish and shine for a glamorous look.

Backstage at Nicholas K Fall/Winter 2016 at New York Fashion Week

Backstage at New York Fashion Week, for Nicholas K Fall/Winter 2016, Lead Stylist for Macadamia Professional, Giannandrea created the hair look for the show: The Under-Chin Side Knot. This unique look included a side part half chignon under the chin, with an abstract wood hair stick. 

Step-by-Step:

1. Starting with wet hair, apply one pump of Macadamia Professional Blow Dry Lotion ($24) from the mid-lengths to ends and blow-dry hair straight.

2. Use a flat iron on small sections to seal the straight hair.

3. Create a sharp center part on the crown only and brush hair down into two loose sections on each side of the head, in front of each shoulder.

4. Run a quarter-sized amount of Macadamia Professional Nourishing Moisture Oil Treatment ($39.95) from mid-lengths to ends.

5. Take the hair section on the left side and gently place it across the neck to meet just below the right ear in a ponytail. Secure the ponytail with a hair tie.

6. Wrap an extension matching the hair color around the hair tie to achieve more length or volume if desired.

7. Twist the hair into a wrapped bun and let the end of the hair stick out 7 inches. Secure the bun with bobby-pins.

8. Spray Macadamia Professional Flex Hold Shaping Spray ($25) over all of the hair and smooth any flyaways.

9. Insert a distinctive hair piece of your choice and finish with a light mist of Macadamia Professional Weightless Moisture Dry Oil Micro Mist ($31.95)

To get the Night Shade look, Sarah Lucero for stila Cosmetics applied rich Aubergine lips paired with accentuated dark brows, flawless finish natural skin and eyes. She also used Beauty Blender's new liner.designer to guide lip liner. The three different edges is also great for creating multiple eye looks.

Backstage at Nicholas K Spring/Summer 2016 at New York Fashion Week

At the Nicholas K Spring/Summer 2016 show at Skylight at Clarkson Square at New York Fashion Week, I previewed the hair and makeup looks backstage with Giannandrea, Lead Stylist for Macadamia Professional and Sarah Lucero, Global Executive Director of Creative Artistry at Stila. 

One of my favorite hair looks I saw on the runway this season is the back knot. Check out these steps to recreate this look at home:

1. Slightly damp hair with water and create a center part all the way to the highest point of the head. Evenly distribute Macadamia Professional Foaming Volumizer through the roots to the ends.

2. Section hair from the top of head to ears, combing down from the part. Take back, large sections and dry with a diffuser and the Macadamia Professional Boar Bristle Paddle Brush. 

3.Apply Macadamia Professional Nourishing Moisture Oil Spray onto dried hair. 

4. Use a straightener to go through both the front and back sections.

5. Take back the section and make a tight ponytail at the nape using the paddle brush. Secure ponytail with elastic using pins. Then , secure the weft of extensions onto the elastic.

6, Take a small section of the weft to hold aside. 

7. With remaining hair, create a loose loop and secure with another elastic. 

8. Wrap the remaining small section of loose hair around the elastic, securing it with a pin and spray the Macadamia Professional Style Lock Strong Hold Hairspray for lasting placement.

For the Urban Base makeup trend, Sarah Lucero used "warm combinations of shadow under the eye keeping the colors rich, while shading the inner rim with our onyx Kajal for a polished look."

Backstage at Zoe Jordan Fall 2015 at New York Fashion Week

Backstage at the High Line Ball Room of the Standard High Line Hotel during New York Fashion Week, Zoe Jordan walks us through fabrics and key pieces for her Fall 2015 collection.

The hair look for Zoe Jordan's Fall 2015 presentation is an Urban Chic rock and roll inspired look, capturing an urban landscape. Lead stylist for Macadamia Professional, Giannandrea walks me through model prep as well as how to achieve this next day hair look at home. 

Step-by-Step Urban Chic Hair Look:

          1. Part hair down the center and apply Macadamia Professional Foaming Volumizer from roots to ends, massaging at the crown for extreme volume. 

          2. Blow dry in small sections with hands only to create a dimensional, imperfectly textured look, focusing again on the roots to increase volume.

          3. Once dry, divide the hair in two sections on each side of the center part and twist the two sections tightly together - spraying Macadamia Control Working Spray to create jold and grip - down the whole length of the hair to create pigtail-like twists, spinning the twist up against the side of the head and securing with bobby pins. Let the buns set for 20 minutes. 

          4. Remove the pins and unwrap the hair, letting it fall, Scrunch the roots to get extra volume. Spray Macadamia Professional Nourishing Moisture Oil Spray throughout the hair to increase shine.

          5. Create a big side part, pushing all the hair over to one side and securing in a low pony tail. Use Macadamia Professional Whipped Detailing Cream through the ends of hair, rubbing fingers together over the hair to create texture. 

          6. Set the look with Macadamia Control Working Spray.
