Handbags of Hope Exchange Beauty & Wellness Showcase

Handbags of Hope founder, Erika Hernandez

In celebration of "Women in Business Month" I attended the Handbags of Hope Exchange Beauty & Wellness Showcase at Roe 7 Studios on Sunday, March 6th, in Hoboken for a day of learning, sharing and giving back. Attendees had a chance to meet with beauty/wellness professionals, win prizes, and listen to success stories, tips and personal stories of empowerment from inspirational women.

The event supported Harvest of Hope Ministries and Dress for Success Hudson County. 100% of all the event's gains are being donated to Dress for Success. Each guest brought a gently used handbag filled with new toiletry items as a donation to Dress for Success in an effort to continue restoring hope and confidence to women in need. At the event, a total of 175 gently used handbags were collected for Dress for Success.

During the event, Fashion stylist, Tiffany Pinero provided us with some styling tips, followed by a beauty panel with vlogger, beauty influencer and brand ambassador Isabel Bedoya, founder of Khuraira Cosmetics, Khuraira Musa, and owner of Hair & Makeup Lounge, Jennifer Pina.

Styling tips from Tiffany Pinero:

- Tailoring is everything. Look proportional and make it fit right
- Get inspired - make a Pinterest board or vision board.
- Plan or strategize before you buy, so you don't end up buying things you don't need.

Takeaways from the beauty panel:

- If you don't have a beauty routine, take on what you can handle. Less is more. Start out small and
work your way up ~ Jennifer Pina
- Look at features you want to emphasize - brows - eyes - lips ~ Khuraira Musa

When asked 'What does being an empowered women means to you?':

- Doesn't matter your age or where you come from you can do anything - Isabel Bedoya
- You have to believe in yourself, have passion and value yourself. Listen to your inner voice
     ~ Khuraira Musa
- Take the help to be guided in the right direction. Don't be too proud to accept help ~ Jennifer Pina

When asked 'What if you are struggling to find your inner voice?'

- Don't give up on what you are doing ~ Isabel Bedoya
- Find your passion. Find your niche and value it. Be good at it not mediocre. Always learn.                      Challenge yourself. Find something impossible and go for it. Don't be afraid ~ Khuraira Musa
- Figure out what you're doing that isn't making you happy. Re-evaluate. Change what you don't like.      Plan for the future what makes you happy and work towards that goal ~ Jennifer Pina

When asked 'What do you when you have bad days?'

- Cover it up with a smile. Think of how blessed you are. Think first and act later ~ Jennifer Pina
- Count your blessings. There is more positive than negative. Put makeup on and feel fabulous ~ Isabel Bedoya
- Right down positives and negatives for the year. Positives are always bigger than negatives. Always have God by your side ~ Khuraira Musa

After the beauty panel, Handbags of Hope founder, Erika Hernandez reminded us to figure out what you are good at, think about how it makes you feel, and figure out how to use your talent to make money.

In exchange for bringing a gently used handbag filled with toiletries and snacks for a woman in need, the first 50 women who arrived at the event received a brand new handbag filled with products from sponsors and all other guests received a gift bag.

Style Post Featuring USE UNUSED / United Nude / Glass Handbag

Top: USE UNSUED
Tunic: ecoté, Urban Outfitters
Coated skinny jeans: Habitual
Shoes: United Nude
Clutch: Glass Handbag
Necklace: Rebecca Minkoff
Sunglasses: Quay Australia, Urban Outfitters

The weather is warming up and it's time to lose the winter coat! Say goodbye to winter and hello spring! I got this wool coat mid-season at the USE UNUSED sample sale and it's kept me incredibly warm. I love the fit - all I had to do was get the sleeves tailored, which I got done after I shot this look. This was by far the best sale find to date - a $1300 coat for $110! My winter coats are always black, so I never thought I'd opt for a rose-colored coat until I tried it on. I'm afraid I'm going to get something on this coat because of the light color, but this season I managed to avoid any emergency trips to my dry cleaner.

The Mosaic silver shoes of course are from one of my favorite shoe brands, United Nude. I also have their Mosaic black peep toe shoes. If you are a size 35 like me, you should definitely check out United Nude. I have at least 10 pairs of their shoes!

The Rave Metal Clutch is by Glass Handbag, which has a built in electroluminescent light with batteries! Glass Handbag also has satchels and crossbody bags. One of their satchels or totes would be great for an everyday bag.

So I guess this look is my way of celebrating Rose Quartz as Pantone Color of the Year. Now I just have to see if I have any blue hues that would work for Serenity.

Epson "Digital Couture" Fall/Winter 2016 at New York Fashion Week

Cristina Ruales, Brooklyn, NY

Epson's "Digital Couture" Fall/Winter 2016 Fashion Presentation took place during New York Fashion Week at Sixth Tenth, 60 Tenth Avenue. Eleven designers were selected from the Americas to showcase their collections created using Epson's state-of-the-art direct-to-garment and digital dye-sublimation printing. To commemorate the return of this showcase of designers coming together for fashion, this year's theme for the presentation is "Harmony and Peace Through Fashion."

The eleven designers included Cristina Ruales from Brooklyn, NY, Pionier by Janet Ríos & Carmen Artica from Peru, Santika by Danny Santiago from Miami, FL, Ossira by Agostine Orlandi & Ludmila Osikovsky from Argentina, Kaleidoscopic by Maria de Lourdes Ramirez & Isabel Navarro Landa from Mexico, Chloe Trujillo from Los Angeles, CA, GM by Gustavo Moscoso from Ecuador, Fabrizzio Berrocal from Costa Rica, Lenerd by Felipe Santamaria Luque from Colombia, Tigresse by Fabio Yukio from Brazil, and Matías Hernán from Chile.

Digital dye-sublimination and direct-to-garment technologies, a relatively new trend in the textile industry, allow designers to alter textile designs, make color selections with the click of a mouse, and focus on the fine details of their creations.

Epson's SureColor F-Series printers give fashion and textile designers an accessible means to bring their ideas and inspiration to life, with the quality that distinguishes the Epson brand. The SureColr F-Series printers are high-speed, low-cost solutions  that produce sharp, vivid images and offer an abundance of rich colors, intense blacks, and smooth gradations onto fabric.

Sachin & Babi Fall/Winter 2016 at New York Fashion Week

Sachin & Babi Fall/Winter 2016 is inspired by a recent trip to Valencia and Granada, with classic Latin silhouettes, rich jewel tones and Flamenco flair.

The collection is rich in silk, floral patterns and intricate embroidery, complimenting classic velvet in the form of beautifully tailored gowns and special occasion separates. Ruffled tired maxi skirts, modern boleros and signature handwork embody an old world elegance and charm, balanced by the ease and wearability that the modern girl demands.
