Diptyque Annual Sample Sale - Extended!

Diptyque is one sample sale you don't want to miss! I found a lot of great gifts and some favorites for myself. The sale has actually been extended until Friday!

I rounded up some of my favorite scents, in the form of a candle - Choisya, $25, eau de toilette tester - L'Ombre dans l'Eau, $10 and essential oil kits - Baies and Figuier, $10!

This sample sale is a great way to pick out some of your favorites if you don't have any already. I tend to gravitate toward the fruity and floral scents:

Choisya - This orange flower, so evocative of Mexico, sparkles with its bitter-sweet scent.
L'Ombre dans l'Eau - The rustling of petals and the leaves of bushes heavy with fruit in an English garden
Bais - A bouquet of roses and blackcurrent leaves, a companion to diptyque eau de toilette, L'Ombre dans l'Eau.
Figuier - The warmth of fig wood, the freshness of its leaves and the milky sap prolong the pleasure of Philosykos eau de toilette.

You still have Thursday and Friday to hit the sale so get to it!

Diptyque May E-Commerce Launch

Earlier this month I attended a preview for Diptyque's new e-commerce launch. Diptyque's luxuriously scented candles are my favorite, especially Baies (bouquet of roses and blackcurrent leaves) since I love fruity scents. Through diptyqueparis.com you can shop by personal and home fragrances and body care.

You can shop by fragrance (eau de toilette, colognes or travel sprays), by scent (citrus, fruity, spicy, floral, woody, herbal and more), by ingredient (cinnamon, citrus fruits, fig leaves, grapefruit, jasmine, thyme and more) or check out the
best sellers or gifts.

Next year Diptyque will be celebrating their 50th anniversary. In 1961, Yves Coueslant, Christiane Gautrot and Desmond Knox-Leet opened the first Diptyque shop at 34 boulevard Saint-Germain, Paris. These three artisans, friends and partners originally showcased their avant-garde fabric designs and textiles and decorative, unique and unusual items from their travels. The name Diptyque was inspired by the two diptychs or windows flanking the front door of the original boutique.

Diptyque's first scented candles were launched in 1963 - Aubépine/Hawthorn, Cannelle/Cinnamon and Thé/Tea. In 1968, the first line of diptyque fragrances was launched, starting with L'eau, a non-gender specific scent of cinnamon, clove, geranium and sandalwood rose - spices and flowers inspired by a 16th century recipe.

Here are some new Diptyque product launches you may want to check out:

NEW Eau de Toilette: Vétyvério - available in May
The core of the fragrance is vetiver from Indonesia and the Caribbean. Additional notes include: organic ylang ylang from Madagascar, Turkish rose, and peppery geranium from Egypt. Hints of Italian mandarin orange, Florida grapefruit, Sicilian lemon, and bergamot keep the EDT fresh and fruity, rather than citric. A few spices (carrot seeds, nutmeg and clove) combined with the dryness of cedar adds structure to the final product. $88, 50ml and $120, 100ml

NEW Art of Body Care products - launched in April

Smoothing Body Polish: Pomegranate, jasmine, and peach. $68

Softening Hand Wash: Lavender honey, rosemary and lemon. $38

Velvet Hand Lotion: Immortelle floral water, sesame seed oil, chamomile, acacia honey, licorice extract, and sweet almond milk. $42

Currently
diptyqueparis.com is only available to U.S. customers, but has future plans to launch in Europe and Asia. Every online order is packaged in a cotton bag and tissue-lined box.

Shop the Diptyque Madison Avenue Boutique

Earlier this month (December 3rd), I attended the Diptyque boutique opening at 971 Madison Avenue between East 76th and 75th Streets. Diptyque is known for their luxury candles, sprays and fragrances, as well as body care (including lotions and creams, body wash, hand balm and oils). The candles and room sprays include floral, fruity, herbal , woody and spicy scents. Diptyque uses only natural ingredients when composing fragrances.

I was happy to give some Diptyque candles and soap trios (set retails for $38.00) as Christmas gifts. They make great gifts for any occasion, so I will definitely keep them in mind for any future gift-giving.

For the holiday season, check out the special edition 'winter's once-upon-a-time wonders' candle set, including the fresh and earthy Pine, mystic, sweet and woody Benzoin and Roasted chestnuts. Another set available for the 2009 holiday season is the Black Coffret set, including Feu de Bois (warm, familiar, and sophisticated accord of rare woods burned on long winter days), Oranger (lightly spiced citrus notes from the wood, leaves, and fruit of the orange tree) and Pin Sylvestre (fresh smell of Scotch Pine) candles.

As I looked around the store and took in all the different scents, I really liked the woody and floral notes in the Baies, Figuier amd Feuille de Lavande gift set, including a trio of mini candles. The set retails for $84.00 with a 30 hour burn time for each of the candles (2.4 oz each). The larger candles (6.5 oz) retails for $68.00 and have a 60 hour burn time.

Here are some candle tips I picked up from Dyptique, to help your candle burn clean and evenly down to the bottom:
  • After blowing out the flame, if necessary center the wick in the liquid wax.
  • It is essential to cut the wick short before relighting the candle to avoid unnecessary smoke.
  • Do not place the candle in a wind draught or directly on a glass or marble surface.

Private Diptyque Sample Sale

Diptyque candles

Curt and Scott Goldman

Scott serving up Combier

French luxe candle and fragrance company, Diptyque held a private sample sale event this evening from 6-8, for editors, buyers and VIP guests. Everyone was stocking up on favorite and discontinued scents at 40% to 90% off. I stocked up on some great gifts - candles, soap sets and hair and body wash, but you can also find eau de toilette, cologne and other bath & body products. Shopping was easy with testers to help you find just the right scents and a box to put your products in.

Scott Goldman, President and Director of Sales for Cadre Noir Imports, was serving up my favorite liqueur, Combier, combined with champagne to create the 'French Perfume', the perfect-themed drink for this shopping event. It's always a pleasure to see Scott and his brother Curt, CEO of Cadre Noir Imports, as they always make each event they are involved with a friendly and enjoyable atmosphere.
The public sale starts tomorrow and it's totally worth going to. Be sure to quickly find what you want and fight the crowd, as I'm sure it will be a busy sale. Get their early if you can!
