Sony Ready to Compete with Apple on New Televisions

Sony, after another treacherous quarter of financial setbacks, announced that it needed to completely revamp its struggling television-based business. In an interview with the Wall Street Journal, CEO Howard Stringer is quoted as saying that Sony is now focused on "a different kind of TV set." He did not get into specifics on what he was referring to, whether it be Google TV or a new technology that Sony itself is advancing but he did add that Sony was looking at the "really well organized" beauty of Apple and its iPhone products.

He also said that after a five-year development period to compete with Steve Jobs and Apple, Sony is now finally ready to launch. This of course all hinges on Sony's ability to pull together all aspects of its technology business and its four screens (phones, tablets, PCs and TVs) and incorporate it together with a network service that can be offered on all platforms. We will keep you posted as this unfolds, I myself am highly interested.

Apple Prepares Launch of iTunes Match

Apple will launch its highly reviewed and highly anticipated cloud based music service iTunes Match, after having been delayed for reasons unknown. Developers were alerted via email that all current iCloud libraries would be deleted on Saturday.

The launch date for iTunes Match has not been set but Apple executives did say that this final warning to clear developers' online libraries is being done in preparation of the iTunes Match launch.

iTunes Match is a service that allows iTunes users to mirror their iTunes music libraries online in the service iCloud for a small monthly fee. The service was set to Launch at the end of October but was delayed for unkown reasons, which is strange considering how Apple usually never misses their targeted launch date. Apples note to developers is displayed is quotes as follows.

"As we prepare for the launch of iTunes Match, we will be deleting all current iCloud libraries on Saturday, November 12th at 10 AM PST.

Please turn off iTunes Match on all of your computers and iOS devices. On your computer, choose Store > Turn off iTunes Match. On your iOS device, tap Settings > Music, then turn off iTunes Match. On your Apple TV, please choose Music > Turn off iTunes Match.

The songs on your computer should not be affected. As always, please backup regularly and do not delete the music you add to iCloud from your computer.

Best regards,

Apple Developer Program Support"
