Thuy Spring / Summer 2010

My favorites from Thuy Spring/Summer 2010 are the trench coat with tank dress, tanks paired with sexy, lightweight front drape tuck skirts and dresses with front or back zipper details.

The powerful palette of gold, purple, blue and coral stood out among black, white and neutral toned hues that were also seen throughout the collection.

'Lela Rose Spring 2010 centers around the sun faded palette of Alex Katz and the splashes of saturated color seen at Venice Beach.

Combining texture of color, silhouettes resemble sculpted surf wear while soft wave and cascade shapes bring an ocean feel to the collection.

Wrapped skirts, seamed sheaths , and sport jackets are redefined through sunset tweed, matte stretch linen and daybreak printed cotton.

Cashmere t-shirts and paneled cardigans in colors such as highlighter, grass green, and watermelon bring an effortless balance of casual and luxury.'
There are many pieces that work well for a petite frame, including a rolled neck blouse, cashmere cardigans, scuba and wave skirts, sheath, halter, and strapless dresses.

'The Lela Rose customer is looking for something different with an unexpected twist in detail and fabric manipulation. My Payless shoe collections successfully embody femininity, unique textures and the attention to design detail that gives the customer a reason to buy - without having to think twice about price. Working with Payless inspires me each season; they do an amazing job turning my vision into reality. Because of Payless' prices and extraordinary production capabilities, I am able to reach a broad audience while staying true to the Lela Rose aesthetic.'

I look forward to Lela Rose's 11th Payless seasonal shoe collection, including unique silhouettes consisting of sculpted wedge heels, criss-cross straps and peep-toe mary jane details. The shoe collection will be available exclusively at Payless stores and Payless.com in February 2010. Be on the lookout for them to arrive - these shoes go fast, especially in size 5! Here's a closer look at the upcoming spring styles:

Bently is inspired by the classic '50s round-toe pump and modernized with a weighted covered heel and twisted bow detail. The Bently is featured on the runway today in several interesting textures and fabrics such as citrine "splash" jacquard, dove grey-and-sand "scratchy-dot" silk, royal navy linen and magenta faille.

Ashland is a peep-toe mary jane with a sculpted wedge heel. The wedge heel is inspired by the waves of the ocean and done in sand-colored lacquered wood to exude a watery shine feel. The upper is detailed with an angular peep-toe and simple mary jane strap and accented by an oval nickel buckle. The Ashland is featured on the runway today in a range of fabric uppers including the "scratchy-dot" jacquard, bright navy and ivory ticking tweed, sea grass cotton tiny dot, royal navy and koi orange linen, and magenta faille.

Hampton is a wedge featuring the same sculpted sand-colored heel design as the Ashland, complemented with a wide criss-cross fabric upper design. This style goes down the runway in strong colors such as sea grass green, royal navy and dove grey linen. This style is also represented in royal navy linen combined with ivory ticking weed, exemplifying Rose's signature mixed material design aesthetic.

Neilson is the only flat in the collection. Designed as a classic skimmer silhouette, the soft pointed toe and twisted bow detail make this style a wardrobe staple. The Neilson is seen in the sea grass cotton tiny dot and citrine faille.

Kinney is the dressy open-toe platform pump. It features a visible three-quarter-inch platform sole that is designed to incorporate the three adjoining toe straps. The ankle strap is "belted" across the heel counter and secured with a square nickel buckle. This style is featured on the runway in colored silk satins including bright navy, classic navy, ivory and dove grey.

Zephyr is a casual spring sandal that includes the sculpted sand-colored lacquered wood wedge heel, a simple cross-band design across the toe, and a feminine ankle strap. This style is seen today in wonderful textured fabrics that include the "scratchy-dot," the citrine "splash" jacquard and the sea grass mini-dot cotton. It is also represented in bright navy silk satin and magenta faille.

alice + olivia’s spring 2010 collection is inspired by the Plastiscines, a French girl band with a cross between indie rock and Parisian chic. The looks are sexy, playful and fun, varying from feminine to streetwear chic. I like the purple two-tone strapless dress, the black dress with gold zip detail and elastic strap back lace cat suit and the taupe rolled cuff blouse with black cropped leather legging. Christian Siriano Spring 2010 RTW and Payless Shoe Collection

As I was shut out of the Christian Siriano show, for being at capacity, his spring 2010 collection received full applause from those of us who watched the show on-screen in the lobby of the tents. The collection is inspired by the notion of luxurious Mediterranean travel.

The palette includes soft khakis, nudes and blushes, infused with rich colors fuchsia, blue and orange, picturesque of yachting in the coastal sunset. Siriano has really stepped up his game for spring, with incredible oceanic and volcanic prints on stunning silk, chiffon and organza. The fabric print was created using an aerial photograph of the intricate Italian coast line that has been flipped, modified, repeated and saturated with Volcanic and Oceanic colors.

I especially like the draped sleeve detail seen on the washed silk cotton waist blouse and on the two toned silk dress. Spring continues with the metallic linens, as seen on the zip front dress in ocean and pleated short. Siriano still shows his dramatic flair, yet focuses on wearable ready-to-wear pieces, like the satin-faced chiffon draped bustier with diagonally draped skirt in volcanic print and a beautiful satin-faced organza draped strapless dress with beaded bodice - the perfect evening dress. I do love the gowns Siriano presents in the collection. You can definitely see the craftsmanship, skill and work put into them.

To go along with the spring looks, get ready for the Christian Siriano for Payless shoe collection, also including two of the handbags seen on the runway. The upcoming spring shoe collection marks Siriano’s third line for Payless, this time encompassing textural tribal themes with the use of mottled prints and hides with raw metal sequins and details.

The upcoming Payless collection includes To-the-Point pump with upturned point toe and exposed platform sole, It’s-a-Cinch ankle bootie with teeny peep toe, All-Done-Up pump with nickel sequined straps, Cut-it-Out high vamp pump with thick ankle cuff strap and metal sequins, and Stripped Away ankle boot, including a giant zipper that runs all the way up the front of the shoe with a chain tassel zipper pull. The shoes feature Siriano’s signature bull-horn heel in colors that match the runway collection.

Georges Chakra is always one of my favorite shows to attend, with amazing chiffon cocktail dresses and gowns. Spring 2010 has a lot of color – lime apple, yellow, aqua, sky blue, pink and deep pink, along with bronze, pistachio, bronze and classic black and white.

It is all about the details and accessorizing most of the looks with a silver leather belt. Each look has different embellishments, including Swarovski crystals on straps, metallic and pearl jewelry at bust-shoulder point, bronze metal ring at shoulder, beading and stones.

Favorite looks include a short black satin drape dress with metallic and pearl jewel accessories with silver leather belt, short lime apple chiffon dress with horizontal and vertical details at front, with chiffon cape at back and satin lining, chiffon sky blue gown with bed embellishment and silver leather belt, short strapless mosaic sequined dress in white, ivory, silver and bronze shades with ivory ruffles, chiffon deep pink drape dress with embroidery and silver leather cross bands.

Genetic Denim Spring 2010 Presentation

Genetic Denim held their Spring 2010 Presentation from 6-9pm on September 11, 2009. The presentation was titled “The Dreaming Tree,” an ancient Persian proverb.

“A TREE THAT BEARS FRUIT BENDS OVER.

A TREE THAT BEARS NOTHING STANDS STRAIGHT UP.”

When I arrived, I saw models wearing Genetic Denim jeans within The Dreaming Tree setting. The leaves of The Dreaming Tree were made of the fabric that makes Genetic Denim the softest denim in the industry. “Our fabric is key to the core of Genetic Denim, and our goal for this presentation is to create a personal connection to this core,” explains Creative Director Ali Fatourechi. “We are promoting touch and a connection with nature, a sensorial experience.”

One of the inspirations for the collection is Yoko Ono and her promotion of peace, especially through Ono’s Cut Piece, in which “one room of The Dreaming Tree allowed guests to literally cut off a piece of denim clothing off a person’s body. This one act simultaneously evokes feelings of peace, delicate touch, vulnerability and eroticism – four feelings that illustrate the inspirations behind the Spring 2010 collection.”

Of all the presentations I’ve been to, this one really allows you to feel what the inspiration is. It was such an artistic landscape and perspective, with the leaves of The Dreaming Tree delicate and soft to the touch. The other room had 3 models standing amongst hanging crystal drops, which resembled raindrops.

I especially liked the edgy, worn look of the grey skinny jean with destruction and whiskering and the feminine all-over lace grey skinny jean. The jeans seem flattering on the body and look extremely sexy and comfortable.
