New York Water Taxi 10th Anniversary Celebration

I usually attend multiple events in one night, but on June 21st I was able to thoroughly enjoy one event - New York Water Taxi 10th Anniversary celebration / Tom Fox's retirement. The party was held at the Beekman Beer Garden Beach Club, (formerly Water Taxi Beach, South Street Seaport) north side of Pier 17, at Beekman St.

This is the perfect summer venue - sofas in the sand, food, cocktails and an amazing view!

As I walked in and grabbed a drink, I met Edisa from Delirious Hair Designs. She creates playful, dramatic hairstyles with fun accessories. Some guests with birds, feathers and tiaras in their hair. One of my favorites was a paper lamp shade hat with a light inside it. I opted for a mermaid hairstyle, with coral hair pieces and even a sea creature in my hair.

There were some fun activities, including customized aromatherapy, portraits, drawings and a photo booth.

I quickly had salad, chicken and ribs from the dinner buffet (I would have loved to try the salmon but it was gone in an instant! Must have been good!) and then went on the half hour Statue of Liberty tour hosted by NYWT.

After the Statue of Liberty tour, I enjoyed some chocolate ice cream, cocktails and an exciting fireworks show!

Cocktail Reception at Waters Edge Restaurant

On June 2nd, I attended a cocktail reception at Waters Edge Restaurant, to celebrate their partnership with New York Water Taxi, Circle Line Downtown and MVP/NY. New York Water Taxi had provided transportation to the restaurant and provided champagne and wine during the short ride over.

Waters Edge Restaurant is located at The East River at 44th Drive, Long Island City. It is the perfect place for a wedding, with amazing views of the Manhattan skyline. I really did feel like I was at a wedding with all the amazing food!

As you can tell by my full plate, I loved the selection of seafood on the menu, including calamari, shrimp, mussels and clams.

The night ended with a champagne and dessert cruise aboard the Zephyr, before taking us back to East 35th Street.

The view aboard the Zephyr

There were so many delectable desserts from cannolis, cream puffs and eclairs to tarts, cookies and chocolate covered strawberries.

Go Neon with MAKE UP FOR EVER

On May 16th as The Makeup Show NYC was wrapping up, I was celebrating the launch of MAKE UP FOREVER's neon colors at Let There Be Neon at 38 White Street, between Broadway and Church. I never thought I would come to embrace the neon makeup trend until I saw all the intense colors and experienced it first-hand, with an exciting makeover by celebrity makeup artist David Hernandez.

I am hooked on two of the products that David used during my makeover -
Aqua Liner, $23, (which launched during The Makeup Show NYC) in Diamond Lagoon Green #4 and Rouge Artist Intense lipstick, $19 in Satin Bright Orange #36. I am also dying to try Satin Fuchsia #36. The neon Aqua Liner shades also come in Diamond Turquoise Blue #5, Iridescent Fuchsia #9 and Iridescent Electric Purple #8.

I am all about neon brights this season, including orange, fuchsia, yellow, turquoise, green and purple. Neons can also be found in the following MAKE UP FOREVER must-haves:

-
Aqua Eyes, $18 - Majorelle Blue #15L, Turquoise #7L and Pistachio #17L
-
Aqua Cream, $22 - Fuchsia #7, Orange #10, Turquoise #21 and Emerald Green #22
-
Star Powder, $19 - Green Apple with Gold Highlights #958, Iridescent Fuchsia #951 and Blue with Turquoise Highlights #960

During the Neon event, we were able to create our own custom eye shadow palette. For my palette, I decided to choose Yellow #2, Acid Green #171, Neon Pink #75 and True Blue #167.

You can experience the neon trend and shop MAKE UP FOR EVER products at sephora.com and Sephora stores.

I had the pleasure of speaking with Dany Sanz on how to mix colors together and add a pop of color to your look.

Dex Spring/Summer 2011 Color Palettes

Dex's Spring/Summer 2011 color palette is inspired by iconic New York City landmarks and notorious streets like Smith Street, Christopher Street, Tompkins Square, Riverside Drive, Off Broadway, Carnegie Hall, Bergdorf’s, and MoMA. The new color palette can easily be mixed with Dex's palettes from past seasons.

Back in April I had attended the launch of the new color palette at Dex New York, 46 East 65th Street. By submitting a portrait pic in advance, the Dex team was able to customize my makeover. Here is my face chart, including Empire State Platinum Mineral Pressed Shadow for the lid, MoMA Golden Pink Mineral Loose Pigment for the brow bone and cheek, Wall Street Onyx Mineral Pressed Shadow for upper and lower eyeliner and Christopher Street Orchid lip gloss.

My fabulous makeover look!

The Makeup Show NYC 2011

The Makeup Show NYC took place on May 15th and 16th at the Metropolitan Pavilion. The sixth annual pro-only beauty event included over 6,000 attendees made up of makeup artists, beauty professionals, buyers, press, industry educators, retailers and celebrity makeup artists - Sam Fine, Billy B, Danny Sanz and Reggie Wells.

If you are in the makeup industry, this is the event to be at, as you can really learn a lot from the hands-on workshops and keynote speakers. It is a great career building event to get tips/advice from the experts and make some important connections. The information sessions covered everything from essentials every makeup artists should have in their kit to how to talk to agents.

With over 150 brands and 59 forums, there were some new brands showcased this year, including Kevin Aucoin and Nars. It was great to see the natural/organic brands and products present, such as Youngblood, OCC (100% vegan and PETA approved), RMS Beauty and Smashbox's Green Room line.

This was only my second year at The Makeup Show NYC, and it was bigger and better than last year. It was exciting to see the new spring/summer palettes and collections and check out some new brands. There were a lot of brands launching new products at The Makeup Show and offering exclusive discounts and products!

Some of my favorites from Nars this season is are the Soft Touch Shadow Pencils in Queen and Palladium, Cap Ferrat Trio Eye Shadow and Kismet Nail Polish

Everyone was excited about Make Up For Ever's Aqua Liner launch at the show. I definitely recommend it! This waterproof liquid eyeliner is easy to apply and I love the vibrant shades! Eyeliner is always one of my favorite ways to add a pop of color to your eye!

I love the new BECCA Cosmetics colors, including the Nail Colour in Tangerine Dream and Halcyon Days Palette. Coral is one of my favorite colors this summer!

Fans were lined up to see Sam Fine and get autographed copies of his DVD: The Basics of Beauty. I had the privilege of meeting with Sam during a beauty event at Duane Reade for some makeup fun.

I have become a big fan of Inglot Cosmetics ever since I attended the Inglot studio launch at the Chelsea Market Building back in February. You could literally spend hours there, as they have every shade imaginable. It is way too much fun creating your own palette. I was so happy with the palette I made at the studio, including concealer, lip glosses and eye shadows.

You can create your own DEX Artist Portfolio with your favorite shades

During The Makeup Show NYC 2011 Blogger Preview, James Vincent encouraged us to check out the hissyfit® clockpot™ by Reggie Wells. Once you choose your skin tone (I fall under medium with coral tones), it's easy to find the face, eye and cheek clockpots that are right for you, including perfect color combinations to compliment your skin tone. I had the pleasure of meeting Reggie, who is sweet as can be!

Luminess Pro air brushing. I have the Luminess Air kit. It's amazing and easy to use!

I love these Jane Iredale palette cases and the eye shadow shades!
